Open Competitive Exams
Civil Service examinations are either open to the general public or limited, if indicated, to a promotional field of employees in Rockland County government or to employees in one or more of the local municipal jurisdictions in Rockland County. The exams announced on this page are open to the general public. Click on one of the examination announcements below to review the exam date and filing deadline, the job description, local government agencies where the position exists, salary information, the minimum qualifications required to be approved to participate in the exam and the subject matter of the exam. You may also apply online and pay your fee by clicking the Apply Online link to the right of each examination title. It is recommended that you not wait until the last moment to do so in case a problem may arise during your submission process.
Please refer to the "Supplemental Information to Examination Announcements and Instructions to Candidates for Completing an Application for Examination or Employment" (Supplement "A") for further instructions. After the last filing date, Examination Announcements will be moved to the Expired Examination Announcements page for reference only and remain until exam date.
If applying by mail, completed applications must be postmarked no later than the last filing date. If applying in person, completed applications must be received in the Department of Personnel no later than 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on the Last Filing Date. If applying on-line, completed applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on the last filing date.
If applying to multiple examinations, you must fill out a separate application for each title. Any application submitted after the last date to file will be considered late and ineligible to participate in the examination applied for. The filing fee will not be refunded.
